In the Footsteps of Lowry
An original painting "In the Footsteps of Lowry" in watercolour and acrylic ink on textured watercolour paper. The painting is sold unframed.
The "In the Footsteps of Lowry" painting was created for an exhibition in Buckingham titled Inspired by a Poem.
Inspired by a lyric about L. S. Lowry.
I was desperate to do this painting , but struggled to find a good poem. As a child, I would cycle to my Aunt's with a friend and my brother. The route included pushing our bikes up these steps. They're known as the 24 steps.
I'd found out that the LS Lowry painting called The Chapel was of the same steps. So, I had to do my own version. But I could only "poem" I could find was Matchstalk Men Song lyrics are poems though, aren't they.
The picture is painted on watercolour paper. I start off with a detailed pencil drawing. I then draw over the lines with masking fluid before painting it with a watercolour wash which gets covered with clingfilm. Once this is removed the picture is further developed using acrylic inks which are left to dry before the masking is removed to reveal the final picture.
