Flying High Over London -A4 Reproduction Digital Print
About the image:
The London Cable Car is a new feature over the skyline at Greenwich and a great way to cross the Thames. Cable cars are intriguing and I love the supports, simple and elegant. A far cry from the industrial nature the rest of the area still had. Although it's rapidly changing as the docklands redevelopment continues.
These signs were created in the days when reading was a rare skill, and images were the traditional method for advertising a company. I took several photographs at the time and managed to find a position where these signs were visible with the Walkie Talkie Building in the background. I love the way the curve of the building makes it seem to peer over to say “Hi” and the mix of ancient and contemporary in the composition.

The original picture is painted on watercolour paper which has been treated with watercolour ground. The image is created with masking fluid before painting it with watercolour wash covered with clingfilm. Once this is removed the picture is further developed using acrylic inks which are left to dry before the masking is removed to reveal the final picture.
This is a digital print copy on A4 watercolour paper.
